Debatable Thesis: Humans Are Instinctive - Not RationallyIt has been a debate amongst evolutionary theorists that humans, being the 'thinkers' of the animal kingdom, should think logically. On the other hand, we have the argument that human nature is so good that we need to think logically, too. I would like to throw the debatable thesis to one side, for I think that humans are logical, and that we always will be. I would argue that most humans are rational, and I would even say most of us would rather think logically than make decisions based on emotion.
This certainly doesn't mean that we should run our lives based on instinct, but most modern people do have certain instincts and will work with them if they are in our best interest. So we need to be sure that we avoid having emotional decisions because this can damage our intellectual life. Humans need to think logically to deal with situations, but in the past, humans did not. They simply chose the decision and acted on it. They chose the response and ended up wasting time and energy. In my opinion, we will never learn the skills needed to deal with life by acting on intuition, and we will only make choices based on the debatable thesis of 'I choose.' Nowadays, we are beginning to see more women marry their instincts and not their intellect. They don't say 'I choose,' but 'I think.' I don't see any reason why you shouldn't take this path if you want to live your life. It may seem irrational, but it is a natural one. If we truly want to get to the center of human society, the ethical center, then we need to learn how to think on instinct. But I don't see any immediate signs of the scientific revolution here in the U.S., so I am doubtful that we will ever really get there. What is debatable is the fact that humans are instinctive, that we are very much 'instinctive.' And this is also debatable. One school of thought says that humans are inherently intelligent, while another argues that we are 'instinctive.' Most philosophers and scientists would agree that humans are instinctive, but the debatable thesis is whether humans are rational and that a good part of human nature will remain the same. In the end, there is no clear answer as to how human beings became 'instinctive,' which means, 'inborn,' or 'innate.' We are both 'instinctive'rational.' |
